Here's an intense trail in Pisgah. This is the reward for some seriously painful climbing you have to do to get to it. This trail ends where Bennett Gap starts, so we rode this just before Bennett. I'll have to get going on adding GPS tracks. More...

It's been a while since I posted a new video. It's hard to post new material in general. I don't know how some of the more prolific blogs do it other than regurgitate other blogs' material. I usually just end up reading other blogs instead of working on mine and that's why I never get anything done.
This video shows Bennett Gap (I just realized I spelled it Bennet Gap in the video - hell if I'm changing it now). More...

Surviving the Apocalypse, On Two WheelsWhy did Igor Kenk keep over 2,800 bikes in storage?
That was the question posed by last Saturday’s front-page National Post article. Buried within the article was a possible answer: preparation for the apocalypse. More...

So you may be wondering what happened with the Tues night rides? Well, they are still happening, I've just been going to the beach to ride the Pugsley instead. It's a lot cooler in than the woods, you get to jump in the water when you get hot, and you still get a great workout. More...

Tonight I took a ride around the neighborhood on my commuter. It was hot. And humid. But it felt great as long as I was moving. First place I wanted to go was across highway 17. There is a neighborhood across 17 which is now isolated by the new highway and accessible only by car, like most places around here. More...

This is an update to my earlier post. After Tropical Storm Cristobal cleared out I got my chance to test the new bike on the beach. I already knew its sand performance was going to great but would it handle a 30lb trailer and two boys, one 70lbs and the other 30lbs? That's a minimum 130lb load being pulled through sand. More...

While I am enjoying Critical Mass, I have my doubts that it can be sustained. The next event is coming up on Friday. The reason I say this is because twice in the past these types of events have been shut down by the coordinated and heavy-handed actions of the authorities, whether it be legit or not. More...

No updates for a while because I've been busy putting together my latest creation, the Pugsley. I've wanted one of these since I first rode it out at Interbike Demo Day in Las Vegas. It was the most fun bike I rode there. More...

Cycling is under attack. High gas prices is really the only thing that's going to make this country more bike friendly.
If you didn't see the article in today's Star News, here it is:
Damage to River Road bike lanes should be repaired soon
By Patrick Gannon
Staff Writer
Area bicycling advocates hope damage to bike lanes along River Road is repaired quickly and adequately.
A piece of heavy equipment removing overgrown vegetation from the sides of River Road for the N.C. More...

So thanks to Michael for showing me the Schwalbe Big Apple 29er tires he recently got for his Redline, I picked up a pair from Two Wheeler Dealer and decided to do a beach test at Wrightsville Beach.
I am planning on building a Surly Pugsley with enormous 4.0" tires, but in the meantime, I wanted to see if these tires could go on the sand, especially the looser, deeper stuff. More...

It was a rough week at work so I was really looking forward to the Critical Mass ride. I parked on campus and changed in my car. A family with a college aged daughter walked by and I felt like jumping out of my car half naked and running around yelling "bikes rule" or something thinking that might discourage the girl from attending the asphalt and car loving university. A couple of weeks ago I got the chance to ride Greg's backyard pump track. I had never ridden a pump track before. There's always something new to learn on a bike. That's why am never bored with bikes - there's so many different types of bikes and types and styles of riding. More...

Here's a new video, never before seen footage, of the Sinkhole trail in the Wilson Creek region of Pisgah National Forest. This is another amazing trail in this area. It wraps tightly around the side of a mountain as it works it's way down. More...

The cat's out of the bag. If you read this month's issue of Mountain Bike, they name Wilson Creek as one of the top places to ride on the East Coast. They specifically mention that some trails are off limits to bikes, then they go ahead and mention Greentown, which is one of them. More...

"Everything is not yet lost." - Fortune Cookie
It is only 15 acres. Just another 15. Gone. But as the saying goes, "We will die by a thousand cuts." The 140 acres of UNCW forest remaining will likely be gone in time as well, replaced by intramural fields, buildings, more parking lots, and one of those awful eyesore drainage ponds that are now ubiquitous in Wilmington.
