Pisgah Fall Gathering, part I

(updated: Oct 19, 2007)

Four days of riding. My legs were fried by Sunday when we rode Dupont. This is the only place I took pictures. I filmed Fri and Sat and Thurs was a night ride. The video always takes me a while so I'll be posting that later.

Weather was ideal the whole trip. But it was only just barely starting to look like Fall with the unusually warm dry weather this year. The effects of the drought were apparent on the trail as the dirt turned to sand and washed into the trails. Erosion is going to be a serious problem. I hope it doesn't continue but I've heard some droughts can last hundreds of years. This is a rain forest so a drought will have devastating impacts to the area, not to mention the impact of an increasing population making demands on a sensitive environment.

Yet there was still water flowing at Bridal Veil Falls and I took a short video using my compact camera.

This day, this weekend was also the anniversary of my brother's tragic death. He was a two-wheeled freak of a different kind, but I know he accompanied me on my rides. And I rode strong.

My advice, if you get the chance to ride out here, take it while you can.

sorry i missed this leg of the trip, but i am happy to have the chance to get envolved in these gatherings. the people we met were great. i had a blast and am looking forward to riding this area agian. i am amazed at how open everyone was and willing they were to take us around their home.around the camp fire i heard the story of how Sir Bikes met Mr. Brado and it is funny to think that this was all possible because of that one event. on a lighter note. all you MTB addicts will be happy to know there is crash footage on its way. i saw it first hand, and as long as the tape was working right, there is humor to come at my own expence. but yes i am OK. no injuries that therapy wont fix.
