Sunday DEC ride at Blue Clay

(updated: Jan 14, 2008)

Sunday the Down Easts Cyclists (DEC) folks came down to ride Blue Clay. We are going to have one of the winter race series events here for the first time next year. We tried this year but the trails were not ready. Check out the 2008 DEC race series for more info.

It was unseasonably warm out, like 80 degrees it felt like, and the trails were dry and dusty. It was amazing to see the parking lot so full and so many riders on the trail having a great time. Not only was there our group, but there were also several other riders there.

Here's a few photos taken by Jay.

The parking lot was packed. This is becoming a common site on the weekends.

The whoop section:

Good ride, although I only got to do one lap because I had to leave early to get the float ready for the parade.

Let's do it again sometime.

Just curious, how did they like the trail? What were some of their comments? I also had to leave early for the parade, and didn't get to talk to them after the ride.

Your trails are fantastic!
Rene' and I wanted to thank all of you for the guided tours (it took me a day to get registered on your site) and it was a genuine pleasure to meet you guys.
Your trails are clearly marked. Once I saw the white arrows I knew to look for them. The obstacles/drops were a lot of fun and you could see them well enough to not end up on them accidentally.
It's obvious you've put a lot of work into these trails; I'll be down again this Saturday to catch a few laps.
Thanks again,
John O'Connor

Just wanted to share this with you. It pretty much demonstrates what people think of bicyclists around here. Notice that work-released inmates implied it was a bicyclist who stole the donation jar ... now I can never wear a tan coat with squares on it when I'm riding my bike around New Bern.

Those damn deadbeat cyclists. I think they were responsible for 9/11 too...tourists say they saw a cyclist fleeing the scene.

Sir Knights, Had a BLAST riding your trail last Sunday and so did the rest of the DEC gang that made the trip. The amount of work you all have put into the trail has really paid off and we can't wait until March to race down there. Hope to get back down again real soon!!
