Pedaling for Peanuts Race Results

(updated: Apr 28, 2008)

Great race today. Special thanks to Austin and Steve for organizing it and everyone who helped make it possible. The event was first class. Hard for me to believe that we're actually holding mountain bike races right here in Wilmington. Incredible.

The course was in tip top shape and fast. Maybe a little too fast for me. I raced this time and coming down the section on the hilly side with the bridge at the bottom I crashed really hard. I was trying to make up time and paid dearly for it. Nearly lost consciousness, right eye contact flew out, helmet cracked, chain off, face all scraped up (see pics below). I was dizzy for a while while I tried to get my bearings then managed to start riding again. A little blurry but kept pushing on. It was a rare wreck for Sir Bikes. I am the poster child of the week for why you should wear your helmet.

We had 69 racers this time. Expected more because of the increased promotion (was even advertised on the radio) but I knew several people who couldn't make it. A little on the warm side too - about 80 degrees and no breeze for a while. Some rumbling from the sky later on but no rain. It was such a well organized and planned fund raising event and I hope everyone enjoyed being out there today.

Thanks again for making this a historic day.

If someone has a photo of the Universal Nut Sheller at the race could they email one to me. I forgot to take a pic of it and I'd like to post it here so people can see what it looks like.

One more thing, Skipper Funderburg (our Blue Clay neighbor) was out there today with a copy of his new local surfing history book. It looked really good and should be in the book stores this week so definitely check it out.

Look at my face. I busted my helmet too. Funny thing is, I won a new one. Helmet, not face.

Excellent time! I volunteered throughout the day, had a blast, and met some really cool people. I came home last night and told my wife about it. Long story short, she's a doctor who is trauma certified and would like to volunteer at the next race as the race medic. She'll bring bandages, icepacks, etc. to help out with crash situations... SBA Ouch! Let me know who to contact.

Thanks to all, I had a blast yeterday.

My favorite part was seeing Erol's face, hearing about the wreck, wondering why I didn't see him on the side of the trail licking his wounds and finally realizing he stayed in front the whole time and won the race! Congrats Erol, a race to remember.

Trailmix that would be fantastic to get someone to come out and be the medic for the next race. Hard to say when the next one will be, sometime in the fall is what i heard. Rumor is there is going to be a cancer benifit race sometime in October but thats a long ways off.

Sir Toots, Randy wanted to do a 50 miler at BC, why not hold a BC50 on Saturday, and the Hot 100 on Sunday? Just a thought....

I am going to be racing in the burn 24 hour race that weekend. The BC50 will have to be sooner, and might be an unorganized event. More of a ride than a race, due to the unpleasant nature of it. I like Ben's idea of doing it at night, but no one has the lights to ride for 6 hours in the dark.

The Burn 24 is memorial day weekend. Steve, are you talking Labor Day weekend for the Hot100 or Memorial Day?

Randy, what about a training ride on Saturday afternoon that goes into a evening/night ride? 50 miles is right around 9 laps, don't think I can finish but it would be interesting to see how long I can go.

If we start at 3pm and go until....?

16. Sir Peanuts said...

well 48 miles is 8 laps so to get 50 it would be a little more than 8 and 1/3 laps for 50...how would we swing that? Go 8 or 9 or have a stopping point?

didn't mean to hijack your race feature here so I'll quietly depart and maybe start a forum topic.

I also feel like I need a moment of silence to grieve for the Pine Forest.

bummer.
