Surf, Turf, and Tarmac - Riding in Wilmington, Part II

(updated: Mar 10, 2010)

This is a 30+ mile ride that we do early Sunday morning. Sunday morning is the only time I will ride from my house down Market St. Otherwise I am liable to be hit or run over. On the way back I will avoid Market St. by going from Middle Sound to Bayshore through a right-of-way connector. But recently one of the residents there decided he didn't like it and put barbed wire all over and a Private Property sign up. Normally however I cross Market at Bayshore onto Torchwood and then take the unpaved roads that roughly parallel Market that lead to behind the Food Lion at Porter's Neck.

So back to the ride...this is a great ride that covers road, trail, and the beach. It is a precursor to the FAC ride that I am planning for June (details to come), which will be this ride on steroids. If you like the idea of covering New Hanover County on a bike and riding on different terrain, if you like long rides, if you like great scenery, enjoy exploring, adventure, pain...you are going to love this ride.

But anyway, I made a new video so check it out and see for yourself if this is for you. There's always something fun and challenging to do...in this case it was riding on top of massive iron pipe that was part of a recent beach re-nourishment project. I think I might just be onto something here.

One note: I screwed up the camera angle. It was pointed too low...eh, chock it up to new camera learning curve.
