2011 Wilmington FAC ride - Sunday June 12
(updated: Apr 8, 2012)
This year's ride will take place on June 12. Low tide will be around 10:45am.
We will meet at the Porter's Neck Port City Java. Start time will be 7am.
If you start and end at the Port City Java, you will have done 100 miles, consisting of road riding, trail riding, and beach riding. There's also swimming involved.
It is a killer ride, but for those that don't want to do the whole enchilada or can't commit the entire day to riding, you can meet up at UNCW at the campus trails, or at Ft. Fisher at the State Park pavilion, where we start the beach ride.
The beach ride is around 18 miles round trip of tough riding on sand. With a lap around the island it's about 25 miles total for the Ft. Fisher to Bald Head portion.
Skinny tires are not recommended due to the sand. Large volume smooth tires are recommended for the whole enchilada, such as the Schwable Big Apples.
Other sensible items include head protection, water, food (we stop for lunch on Bald Head), sunscreen, and a small towel.
If you want to go, please email me at sirbikesalot at gmail dot com with your contact info and desired starting point.
In event of really inclement weather (another reason I need your contact info), the rain date will be Sun June 26.

I'm in. Brinker, I hope that you can make it too. It's motivating to see you cruise on the sand with those skinny tires! As for me, I'll stick with the Big Apples....and a towel!
