Less Hunting More Riding
(updated: Oct 7, 2006)
One good thing about going to visit my mother in law up in PA is that I can ride the trails right behind her house. It's not a lot of trail, perhaps two or three miles, and no singletrack, but the trails are rocky in sections and it's got some killer climbs to give me a good workout when I've overindulged on home-cooked meals.
You just have to watch out for hunters. Wearing bright orange is always a good idea. I saw one dude all decked out in camo and carrying a bow. And light was fading fast.
This trail is in Kreamer, PA, which is next to Selinsgrove, PA, which is a more recognizable town because Susquehanna University is located there. The trail is on private land bounded by highway 522, White Top Rd, and Iron Ore Dr. (?), or roughly between highways 522 and 35, between Kreamer and Freeburg, PA.
The potential for incredible riding in this part of the country is huge. If only there were more people out there into it, or if only mountain biking had existed earlier. Most folks here hunt, fish, and ride gas-powered vehicles in the woods. I admit, pedaling up steep terrain takes commitment, but the rewards you receive are well worth it.
Here are the pics I took:

Rockier than I remember.
