Wrightsville Beach ride

(updated: Feb 27, 2011)

Today Leslie and I rode the beach with the fat bikes. I forgot my camera - had issues getting the kids out the door and over to my parents and you know how it goes. So no pics. But I wanted to say that there were so many people on bikes I almost couldn't believe it. I even ran into another guy riding a Pugsley that was visiting from Syracuse.

Yeah it was a beautiful day, but even so I saw group after group after group of roadies and tri geeks, as well as countless individual riders. There were so many riders it's actually kind of sad that we have such a lack of bike infrastructure. But it will change. The Cross City Trail is a big step in the right direction.

Riding the beach there was a 5ft sand drop but I couldn't really launch off it like I wanted because I sprained my neck playing with the kids (yes I am getting old). But I did launch up it in several places and got air - it was really cool. You just have to believe me. But I'm willing to go back and really hit it. Maybe next weekend. With weather like this expected this week I wish I didn't have to work.

Later I took the kids to Blue Clay for a beginner lap, then I went back and could only squeeze in 1 1/2 laps before it was pitch black.

Peace,
SBA
