Riding around Wilmington, and a story about Karma

(updated: Apr 13, 2011)

Some photos from the last couple of weeks of our Sunday morning STT ride. STT = Surf, Turf, and Tarmac.

Tunnel trail.

Ed aka Sir Glide Bikes.

Doing drops with's got to be a first.

Here's a story about Karma...On our way to Wrightsville Beach, we passed a guy walking his bmx bike. He had a flat tire. I asked Ed if we should stop and see if he needed help to patch his tire. Since we were sort of on a schedule, we opted to keep riding. After the beach ride, as I was pumping up my tire, I accidentally ripped out the valve stem with my stupid hand pump (presta valves suck!). Then I realized I had no spare tubes because I had cleaned out my soaked pack from the previous wet weekend in Pisgah and failed to put a tube back in it. Ed had a defective road tube which immediately split open in the huge Big Apple tire I tried to inflate it into. So, there we were, stuck at Johnny Mercer's pier for 45min while we waited for a friend to bring a tube. So much for saving time. That's Karma. I'll never pass up a rider who might need some help. At the very least we should have asked. To the guy walking the bmx bike, sorry dude.

Ed says I should run these tubeless...then proceeds to tell me about how he exploded one attempting to do just that. After that story? Yeah, right.

Shot this while waiting for a tube. Yeah, but can you ride it on the sand?

Ran across this on our ride. Triceratops?

Came darn close to sliding off there on the wet, slick wood.

The usual suspects.

Until next time...
