Blue Clay Pump Track - nearly three years later

(updated: May 9, 2011)

And it's in great shape. It's held up well, despite the neglect until recently. I worked on it last year some but now I believe there's a pump track coordinator that's been hard at work on the doubles which have been transformed into tables. Which, I'm glad to say, I did not attempt to clear as gaps because I would have landed sandwiched in the middle like lunchmeat and it would not have been a good day. Can't seem to get the speed to clear the first one, which also makes it impossible to clear the second one.

Before my knees decided to act like dried rubberbands I used to take two bikes to Blue Clay - the trail bike to do a couple of laps and the DJ to hit the pump track afterward, or was it the other way around? Now I just take the kids and follow them around at their pace because that's about all I can manage right now.

But I must say that kids are drawn to the pump track like old people to bingo games (yeah, me in a few years). And that's a good thing! So here's a few photos of my kids on said pump track.

99 more laps to go.

Nice job on double except it's a bit too long for me. I need to practice, except I can't. Obviously l should do the next best thing and just mill around and look the part instead.

The second one, even longer. And wow, that many logs of that size in one place? It's got to be some kind of record. Every time that many logs get together at Blue Clay it's like a party, and invariably someone has to be the party pooper.

I told them next year this is going to be eight feet off the ground.

Nice to see the boys rolling around. I'm glad to see somebody has been working on it. If I get time I would like to get over myself. Last time I stopped by, I could tell the drainage we put in was working well.

So I put the logs in which have been deemed unwanted by risk management of NHC Parks & Rec. They will be removed this Tuesday and we will be working on the track that day if anyone wants to join! Travis send me an email at
