Lake Crabtree ride

(updated: Apr 7, 2012)

Good size group went to Raleigh today to ride the Lake Crabtree area trails. We had Steve, Greg, Jerry, Gary, Bill, Armando, Trent, and myself. We parked in the Umstead parking lot and rode miles through Umstead to get to Crabtree. This is a good idea, as recommended by Bill, as it gets you warmed up before you hit singletrack; then you repeat it at the end. Steve said we had 42 miles on the odometer for the day. That is about the limit of what I can do on my RIP 9 for one day.

Weather was crisp and cool and trails were dry but recent rain made them perfectly tacky. I managed to take a few photos.

Steve on a small rock garden. I am planning on building something like this at Blue Clay. Blue Clay needs a rock garden! Wouldn't you agree?

Eight bikes, eight riders. Can you tell where we're going?

I decide to ride off the trail and into the stream.

My suspension is at full squish. Time to take off some holiday pounds.

Skinny. I need this for showing New Hanover County an example of a skinny I'd like to build at Blue Clay.

More challenging skinny because it's not straight.

Dirt Jump area. These guys were killing it. I love dirt jumping, but I'm not so good at it. If I had attempted this, doctors would still be untangling my crumpled 40-yr old bones right now.

Great shots! Especially fond of Greg's picture and your sequence was perfect as it made me laugh out loud. Great trip and look forward to the next one.

I just moved to Cody Wyoming from Mt. Airy NC and I got into Mountain biking here and my boyfriend got me interested in downhill biking and he was wondering if we have any downhill trails in NC. and hes used to epic trails in Utah so are there any challenging trails you recommend?

Anything in Pisgah. No shuttles, however, unless you go to Sugar Mtn or use cars.

SBA,

Last time I rode at Crabtree I was not there long enough, chasing the sunset, to find the dirt jumps where are they?

If you park in the first parking lot and go up the trail across the road and keep going until you reach the fireroad, you will see a sign to the left for the dirt jumps. They are near the highway (I-40).
