FATS trip photos
(updated: Nov 21, 2012)
Took a week off of work and headed West to ride, hike, hang out and drink beer. It started off in Brevard and ended with a downhill race at Paris Mountain in Greenville SC, with three days at FATS sandwiched in between.
At this time of year in the South, with the leaves changed but still hanging on the trees, the scenery on the trails was beautiful. Here’s a few photos to get you psyched up for the Cape Fear SORBA FATS ride by Tombo Tours this weekend.
On the way down to FATS, I passed through a tiny town named Pumpkintown. Is it famous for growing pumpkins here, or pumpkin pies, or pumpkin recipes? Apparently the place has nothing to do with pumpkins at all, but it's got a whole history, and a website, aptly called www.pumpkintown.org.
Rider Eric on Great Wall trail:
After not having ridden these trails for a year I'd forgotten just how fun they are, especially on a light and fast XC bike.
Eric on either Great Wall or Skinny, I can't remember:
SORBA-CSRA has added several benches along the trails this year. It's really nice to have these where you can take a break from the hammering and just sit and relax and enjoy the scenery, especially this time of year. They are dedicated to Ken Brosseau, who passed away while riding FATS. Notice how I fail to use the bench for the purpose for which it was designed and instead lean my bike up against it.
Eric on Skinny. Note the sign. Eric is riding my RIP 9 because his bike is broke.
Nancy on Brown Wave. FATS is the premier example of modern-built contour trails.

Bike lane in Augusta, GA. There is a sign in the photo that says "Yield to bikes". Even Augusta is more bike friendly than Wilmington.
