Niner Jet 9 RDO vs Surly Krampus -- Black Mountain Pisgah photo video bonanza
(updated: Feb 19, 2013)
This video features the 2013 Niner Jet 9 RDO, as well as the new Surly Krampus. Obviously Surly knows what they are doing, because they have sold out of them, probably for the year. If the shops didn't order any last year, they aren't getting any.
It is a force to be reckoned with. This is a bike you just look at, and you say, "Hey, now that's a mountain bike". Fuck that crabon shit. I have to say, I like the simple lines of it better than the complex geometry of my Jet 9.
The Surly Krampus:
Randy rode this bike rigid with flats down Black Mountain. That's hardcore. And with a Fox fork on this bike it will be unstoppable, like a steamroller on crack. The 3.0 tires make it carve like a knife and stick like glue on steep climbs.
"Crabon” vs. “Fat bike light”. Both are 29ers. Both are bikes. And both are amazing. See for yourself.
Super awesome Black Mountain video (now with 100% more crabon bike assembly):

My favorite pic of the Krampus:
This is the kind of place where you'd find a Krampus. In a cold, dark cave, waiting to surprise naughty children (Who is Krampus?):

Sticks like crazy:

Yes it's steep:
You should feel what I feel, you should take what I take.

I just want to know before I buy one, is the Jet 9 RDO truly awesome? I've pretty much made up my mind, but as a long term niner rider and mountain bike enthusiast, I value your opinion.
Also, how long did it take you to build it up in the video in real time?

Absolutely. And you can build it up more as a trail bike than a race bike. I thought about waiting for the new carbon RIP 9, but I figure if I can go down trails like this with the Jet, it's all the bike I need.
It took about an hour to hour-and-a-half. But I had already built it once, then took it all apart and built it again for the video. It took much longer the first time because I had to find parts and tools, etc.
