Henderson Ponds MTB Trail - photos, video

(updated: Mar 19, 2013)

We got a chance to check out the new trails up in Jacksonville and all the great work they've been doing up there. This trail is the replacement for the Brig Trail, which has been broken up by development. The Brig Trail still exists and you can ride it, but some sections are gone, so you have to know how to piece everything together. In addition, the Down East Cyclists club is no longer maintaining the Brig Trail as condition of signing a new MOU with Camp Lejeune, where the new trail is also located. This info comes straight from Jeff LeBlanc of Down East Cyclists.

But the new Henderson Ponds trail is just as good as the Brig trail, and far more scenic. The Brig trail had a few deeper gullies so it had a bit more terrain, but overall very similar. However, the new trail has some fun tech features on it, with more coming, and I threw these clips and photos together to give you a flavor of what's there.

My favorite one. Ed flying through air.

The drop is well designed with a smooth landing. But check out the impact. Ed's tire is completely flat and his chain kisses dirt.

That was a lot of fun, I forgot the thrill of riding stunts. BC is just gotten so homogenized, its just boring. Good job up there, we need to go back.
